On 7 December, we gathered for a festive Christmas dinner with our adult online students, this time with a special twist. For the first time, our Pistachio team members joined the celebration, giving students the chance to meet their tutors & back office staff face-to-face, along with partners who brought even more warmth to the evening. With 20 of us around the table, the turnout was fantastic.
A Night of Connection and Celebration
The atmosphere was relaxed and full of good energy as everyone chatted, laughed and enjoyed finally connecting beyond the screen. Students were excited to meet the tutors who have been guiding them through their Mandarin journey and our team loved getting to know the people behind the Zoom squares.
We shared a delicious spread of Chinese dishes, Peking duck, slow-cooked lamb, sizzling beef, sour vegetable fish soup, stir-fried round beans and kimchi fried rice. It truly was an evening of great company, food and bonding.
To add more fun, we kicked off a Kahoot quiz with a mix of general knowledge and Mandarin questions. One highlight was a question revealing that Indonesia has the largest ethnic Chinese population outside China, a fact that sparked lively conversation. After a cheerful round of friendly competition, the top three Kahoot winners were Dewey, Mario and Manaal.
Our students enjoyed showcasing their Mandarin skills, especially when everyone joined in to say “zhù nǐ Shèngdàn jié kuàilè” (Merry Christmas) together.
Celebrating Our Students’ Efforts
During the evening, Yatchun gave an appreciation speech to acknowledge the dedication each student brings to their Mandarin learning. Balancing study, work, and family responsibilities is not easy, and it was meaningful to recognise the effort they consistently put in.
Each student received a present and a certificate to celebrate their progress and positive spirit throughout the year.
The whole night was filled with laughter, encouragement, and happy moments that brought the Pistachio family closer.
