Goran embarked on a journey to learn a 3rd language after a trip to China to visit his wife’s family. He’s no stranger to embracing new cultures and experiences. More recently, his journey with Mandarin began for a deeply personal reason — to connect more meaningfully with his wife, who is Chinese and her family.
After a trip to China, Goran returned home determined to improve his Mandarin. He discovered Pistachio through a Google search and began private online lessons with us in early 2025.
Despite his busy work schedule, Goran made steady progress and quickly found himself drawn to the language’s logic, patterns, and links to history. His enthusiasm often carried over into class — sharing fun expressions he’d practised at home and even getting a few laughs along the way.
- How has learning Mandarin made a difference in your life so far?
Definitely. One of the main reasons I started learning with Pistachio was to talk to my wife because my wife is from China – so it helped with daily communication. And also, whenever I see my friends in other places, it has helped a lot. I really like it, and I continue to do it at home and self study.

Private online classes.
- What do you enjoy most in the Mandarin lessons?
Learning the language, understanding the history behind it, why certain things are the way they are, how they are linked together, and if you learn one thing in Mandarin, it links to a lot of other things. It felt like a more intuitive language than English. It’s not just “learn this because we say so,” it’s more about “this is why, and this is where it came from, and this is the history behind it.”
They [the team at Pistachio] are also very flexible – every one is busy in their everyday lives and have other priorities like work. Pistachio accommodates you to make sure you can still achieve your study whenever you can, because they know that everyone has their other priorities in life.
Overall, just a really good experience, I already emailed Yatchun letting her know that I’d be interested again for another course, just at the moment I’m a bit too busy.
